Urban Planner, Delta, BC
This position is expected to last approximately 2 years in a full-time capacity with the possibility of an extension
This position is partially remote.
Responsibilities
Determining Council priorities and, if appropriate, developing an updated, clear mandate related to the delivery of non-market housing in Delta
Developing a non-market housing program that reflects Council priorities. This may include:
Creating partnerships and supporting capacity building for housing providers, developers, and/or funders
Working with the City’s Development Planners to assist community-based housing providers through the development process
Reviewing, applying for, and supporting community-based housing providers to access funding opportunities
Exploring the potential use of City-owned land for non-market housing
Exploring opportunities to encourage development of more co-operative housing
Engaging with other City departments, Council advisory committees, and external stakeholders regarding the housing program
Education and awareness building with Council, City staff, and the general public
Reviewing existing City policies and procedures to streamline and provide clearer standards regarding non-market housing
Supporting the ongoing implementation of Delta’s Housing Action Plan and other policy priorities to increase the supply, mix, and typology of non-market housing.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in urban planning, public policy, community development, or a related field or a combination of similar related experience and education
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a project leadership role in community planning, development planning, non-profit, or related field
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required
Membership or eligibility for Candidate Membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners, or equivalent, is considered an asset.
Willingness to travel to sites across BC
This role will be partially remote but based in/near Delta, BC.
The successful candidate will be housed within the Community Planning Team but working closely with the Development Planning Team.
